With 35 years of experience emerging from industrial Design Management, my instinct has always been to champion improvement and development as demonstrated by a proven track record of delivering efficiency and refinement in education services. As I moved away from industry into teaching, I was also an exam board moderator and a published author of five educational reference books. My career developed with ever more senior roles, enabling me to understand the broader educational landscape in intimate detail.
A QTS teacher with leadership and IOSHH for Schools qualifications, I am an accomplished senior educational leadership professional, having held roles ranging from Executive Head teacher to Principal, with my current status as an Education Consultant. Widely experienced in a broad spectrum of SEN (special needs) environments (PMLD, ASD, SEMH and other learning difficulties). Leader of both residential and SEN schools, PRU’s and Alternative provisions, I have over a decade of experience in School start-ups, registration for OFSTED, writing policies, procedures and the documentation a school needs for operational purposes.
My extensive experience in school improvement and development, staff recruitment, restructuring, training, team building and leadership mentoring form the basis of my drive to deliver excellence in the special educational needs sector, with a passion for achieving the very best outcomes for the children, who must be the absolute priority.
I believe that children learn in different ways and being an Artist and Designer in my previous career, enables me to see very creative solutions to students learning. I am passionate about making a difference and want to support schools and Local Authorities to make that change.
Alec and I have formed this company with a vast network of consultants/ specialists to meet the needs of special schools and residential sites throughout the UK.
I have over 25 years as an educator, qualifying as a secondary science teacher in 1994. I was immediately drawn to working with children and young people who had expeienced barriers to learnig. Over the next ten years I worked within various educational settings from schools specialising in MLD and ASC to charity run projects striving to engage those involved in criminal exploitation with education. For three years I worked with the NHS and local councils to provide training for staff and programmes for young people around substance misuse, presenting several times on a national stage to MPs and leaders in the substance misuse field on my work and findings. I set up the first young peoples' substance misuse screening and education programme for schools and youth services in Northern Ireland during this time.
Ten years ago I moved into work within the Independent Special School sector. I have worked for the majority of this time within schools specialising in SEMH and working with children looked after. I have been a head teacher at four independent special schools, have gained my SENCO qualification and I am currently completing my Masters in SEN. I have a wide experience as a head working both in stand alone small school settings and larger schools that are part of national groups. I have experience of school registration, having set up two schools and a wide knowledge of the regulatary standards for independent special schools. I am an expert in the Independent School Standards, the new Ofsted framework, the SEND Code of Practice and trauma aware school practice.
Over the last ten years I have led schools from start up through to full inspections on two occaisions having achieved at least a Good rating in all areas.
I am an authentic and creative leader that enjoys building schools from the standards upwards to facilitate outstanding learning experiences for students who have experiencesdbarriers to progress and engagement.
